Dr. Erin Bowe

Clinical Psychologist

Welcome! I'm Erin, and when I'm not outside with my chickens, veggie garden and flower farm, I collaborate with neurodivergent parents and health professionals to help them achieve their goals. I am experienced working with mums and health professionals who have experienced trauma and I am trained in providing EMDR via telehealth.

Some of the things that make me 'me'

Other people may describe me as:

Secret Mum's Club

Pregnancy and parenting brought me experiences that I thought were going to break me - like many parents, I've lived through severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum), sleepless nights, miscarriages, and birth trauma; and I know that after all that, you still have to get up each day to manage the daily demands of parenting, running a house and working. If you're a neurodivergent mum or dad who is discovering their neurodivergence while trying to avoid completely burning out (or perhaps you are already in burnout), then I would be honoured to work with you as we work through all the stressful daily experiences and past traumatic events that are getting in the way of your mental health, wellbeing, and of being the kind of parent you always wanted to be.

Let's take a selfie!

An acronym I love when helping people find balance in their lives is SELFIE, which stands for:
Sleep
Eating
Light
Fun
Interaction
Exercise

I believe that pacing ourselves and finding ways to embrace 'slow productivity' is one of the best protectors against meltdowns, shutdowns and burnout. I would love to work with you to help you set more realistic and protective boundaries within your social relationships and to turn down the noise of anxiety that gets in the way of you connecting with other people.

By the time we finish working together...

I would like you to:

  • Be able to use the power of your hyperfocus while keeping it within your window of tolerance to conserve energy and prevent over-stimulation.

  • Use self-compassion to manage overthinking, rejection sensitivity & overwhelm.

  • Embrace 'slow productivity' and undo the idea that your value depends on how productive you are or how much you can do for other people.

  • Have some distance and desensitization from traumatic experiences.

  • Understand what you can do to help your nervous system feel safe.

More about Erin

Home state: VIC

My eye sparkles and SpIns (special interests) include:

  • Gilmore Girls is my comfort show (20+ years watching and I still discover new references)

  • I love animals and nature. My office is next to my veggie garden, so you'll likely hear happy chicken noises in the background

  • I have the very early beginnings of a micro flower farm. I'm currently growing roses, lilies and dahlias, with peonies to come. If I'm not pottering in the garden talking to the wild birds then I'm learning how to grow better flowers

  • My alternate universe job would be a Florist. Or Journalist for Rolling Stone

  • Writing is where I find my flow. I've published two books and am currently finding a home for a third

  • I enjoy ASMR videos - clay cracking, candy making, tiny animals eating things next to huge microphones or random objects being squashed by a hydraulic press

  • I'm interested in the history of women healers, midwives and witch trials and how this impacts our current birthing and health systems.  I'm also Scottish by ancestry, so yes, I like Outlander

Here are 3 things I believe with all my heart to be true:

  • Solid breathing skills will get you through just about anything

  • Some of the best discoveries came from mistakes

  • Prioritize kindness

Appointments

  • Erin works with us on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

  • Erin's therapy wait list is estimated to be around 3-6 months. This is only a rough estimate; our waitlists can be fluid, and sometimes there is movement, which means we might have unexpected appointments that pop up earlier than this.

  • While you are waiting, we encourage you to ask us to put you on Erin's 'cancellation list' so we can contact you if there are any cancelled appointments we need to fill. This can help us get you into the earliest possible appointment.

  • By booking and attending an appointment with Very Helpful Chats, you agree to our Business Terms and Conditions that can be found on this page of our website.

  • Please click here to complete our waitlist and matching form. Our waitlist and matching form is designed to gather basic information about your needs to make sure we can offer you the service you need. This form also helps us match you with a clinician with the skills and experience to meet your needs.

  • Once we can offer you an appointment, we will send you a second intake form. This second intake form includes our full consent form, and we also request your credit card, debit card, or PayPal details. Rest assured that we take card security seriously, and your details are stored securely on our client management system, Halaxy. This security measure helps us prevent theft and fraud. No one at Very Helpful Chats will have access to your card details. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the security of your card details, we encourage you to read more about Halaxy's card security here: Halaxy Card Security FAQs
