Melissa Gray

Registered Dietitian

Hello! I'm Mel, and I am stoked to join the Very Helpful Chats team as the first Dietitian. I am here as your foodie cheerleader, never the food police. I am passionate about helping people feed their very deserving bodies. I believe that looks different for everyone and will work with you to find the right path to get you moving towards your personal nutritional goals.

I am also a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician and have experience providing assistance with recovery from eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Some of the things that make me 'me'

Other people may describe me as

How I will cheer for you

Your wonderful neurodivergent self deserves nourishment, and I want to help you understand the importance of getting enough food to meet your basic needs! I will help you let go of any unrealistic ideals you may have around food, and by the time we finish working together, I hope you will be able to eat foods that are safe and accessible for you without guilt or shame. Sometimes, we need to try a range of different solutions to find the right fit, and I will support you as we identify the solutions and tools customised for you as a person so you can navigate physical or psychological challenges that may make it more difficult to adequately feed yourself. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients develop confidence to advocate for themselves in relation to their food and their eating needs, and prepare and source adequate food that fits their goals.

More about Melissa

Home state: QLD

My eye sparkles and SpIns (special interests) include:

  • I love food and everything about it. I love learning about the history of certain foods, learning about different cultural foods, learning how different foods go together. I love watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. I also really love eating.

  • I am a curious crocheter. I am amazed by the things people can crochet and I enjoy the process once I get started but I'm still very much a beginner. I would love to venture beyond a standard blanket and try more complicated patterns.

  • I love walking around places I have never been before. Some of my favourite memories are finding things like little boutique gift shops, hole in the wall cafes, random memorials or beautiful street art.

  • I also love a good game of rummy.

Here are 3 things I believe with all my heart to be true:

  1. There is always room for kindness.

  2. Happiness is found in moments not things.

  3. Staying curious helps us be better humans.

Fees

  • The standard consultation fee for a 50-minute appointment with Melissa is $220. This applies to all clients, including privately paying clients, clients using Medicare or private health insurance and NDIS clients who are self-managed.

  • Fees for NDIS plan-managed clients are as per the NDIS price guide for dietitians.

  • If you have a valid referral, Medicare rebates are available for appointments with Melissa under a Chronic Disease Management Plan. A rebate means you pay the full fee first and then receive a portion of the fee back from Medicare.

  • Private health insurance rebates are available, depending on your fund and level of cover.

  • You can read our Fees and Rebates page for more information.

Appointments

  • Melissa works with us on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

  • Melissa's start date is the 14th of February.

What happens now?

  • After you get in touch, our dedicated admin team will send you our brief 'waitlist and matching intake form'. This form is designed to gather basic information about your needs to make sure we can offer you the service you need. This form also helps us match you with a clinician who has the skills and experience to meet your needs.

  • Once we are able to offer you an appointment, we will send you a second intake form. This form goes into greater detail and aims to gather more specific information about your history and current situation to enable your allocated clinician to better prepare for your appointment.

  • As part of the second intake form, we also request your credit card, debit card, or Paypal details. Rest assured that we take card security seriously, and your details are stored securely on our client management system, Halaxy. This security measure helps us prevent theft and fraud. No one at Very Helpful Chats will have access to your card details. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the security of your card details, we encourage you to read more about Halaxy's card security here: Halaxy Card Security FAQs
