Anna Aminov

Clinical Psychologist

Welcome! My name is Anna, and it is my privilege to provide neurodiversity-affirming assessments and therapy. Although I help my clients with lots of different aspects of neurodivergent life, one of my greatest joys is helping late-identified neurodivergents to safely un-mask.

What does it mean to safely unmask? It means learning to show up and be your authentic self - the self you would have been had you not collected so much trauma along the way. It means learning about what you actually need and developing the confidence to ask for what you need at home, work, and in relationships with friends or family.
Safely unmasking means that you can start acting like your true authentic self - and learning what to do with that lifetime of trauma - so it no longer controls you.

Some of the things that make me 'me':

Other people may describe me as:

Learning, finding, re-connecting

In a world that is designed for neurotypical people, the life of a neurodivergent person can be particularly challenging. Although life is tough, I believe you have incredible strengths and insights which has led you to seek support for yourself. Starting therapy can bring up a lot of different feelings - I have heard it described as sitting in the 'mud' of emotions! It's certainly not easy and not fun for neurodivergent people to have to try and get themselves out of this 'mud' of emotion that has built up over a lifetime of masking and not fitting in. I will validate your experiences and feelings - because so many neurodivergent people have been through similarly tough experiences.

I want to help you learn what to do when you get upset and distressed. I want to help you learn how to use aides and tools to help you plan, prioritise, organise and remember important things. I would especially love to help you find or reconnect with your passions and special interests (SPINs) - because to neurodivergent people, our passions and SPINs are more than just fun hobbies - they're one of the most important tools we have to help us cope with the difficult things in life. I also want you to know that it is not your sole responsibility to adjust and accommodate to the neurotypical world. I will advocate for you, celebrate with you, and be with you on your journey towards safely unmasking.

I want you to know that you are a unique and amazing person and I believe in you - exactly as you are.

And I'm excited to start working together

Home state: NSW

My eye sparkles and SpIns (special interests) include:

  • Writing - reports, short stories, reflections. I love writing, it has an incredibly calming effect on me. I wish to write a book one day. I love reading (and listening to audiobooks), but my favourite free time activity is to walk in nature and listen to a well-narrated audiobook. Harry Potter is my favourite book.

  • Psychology has been my absolute SpIn for the past 13 years! Particularly topics of trauma and neurodivergence.

  • Animals. I adore my cat, and wish I could adopt a puppy and get training in animal therapy. I also adore Alpacas and visit them often on a farm, I also wish I could adopt a few, and live on a farm one day.

  • Tea. My love for tea started with green tea with jasmine. More recently, I developed an interest in Chinese Tea ceremonies. I am currently undertaking training to facilitate tea ceremonies. It can be a wonderful act of connecting with self and others, while sitting on a cushion, without the usual expectations of talking and making eye contact. Everyone is quiet and connecting through the shared experience of tea. I also do the ceremonies on my own, when I travel to nature or at home before or after a busy day.

What happens now?

  • After you get in touch with us, our dedicated admin team will send you our brief 'waitlist and matching intake form'. This form is designed to gather basic information about your needs to make sure we can offer you the service you need. This form also helps us match you with a clinician who has the skills and experience to meet your needs.

  • Once we are able to offer you an appointment, we will send you a second intake form. This form goes into greater detail and aims to gather more specific information about your history and current situation to enable your allocated clinician to better prepare for your appointment.

  • As part of the second intake form, we also request your credit card, debit card, or Paypal details. Rest assured that we take card security seriously, and your details are stored securely on our client management system, Halaxy. This security measure helps us prevent theft and fraud. No one at Very Helpful Chats will have access to your card details. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the security of your card details, we encourage you to read more about Halaxy's card security here: Halaxy Card Security FAQs
