Anna Aminov

Senior Clinical Psychologist

Welcome! My name is Anna, and it is my privilege to provide neurodiversity-affirming assessments and therapy. In a world that is designed for neurotypical people, the life of a neurodivergent person can be particularly challenging. Although life is tough, I believe you have incredible strengths and insights which has led you to seek support for yourself. Starting therapy can bring up a lot of different feelings - I have heard it described as sitting in the 'mud' of emotions! It's certainly not easy and not fun for neurodivergent people to have to try and get themselves out of this 'mud' of emotion that has built up over a lifetime of masking and not fitting in. I will validate your experiences and feelings - because so many neurodivergent people have been through similarly tough experiences.

Some of the things that make me 'me':

Other people may describe me as:

Learning, finding, re-connecting

I want to help you learn what to do when you get upset and distressed. I want to help you learn how to use aides and tools to help you plan, prioritise, organise and remember important things. I would especially love to help you find or reconnect with your passions and special interests (SPINs) - because to neurodivergent people, our passions and SPINs are more than just fun hobbies - they're one of the most important tools we have to help us cope with the difficult things in life. I also want you to know that it is not your sole responsibility to adjust and accommodate to the neurotypical world. I will advocate for you, celebrate with you, and be with you on your journey towards safely unmasking.

I want you to know that you are a unique and amazing person and I believe in you - exactly as you are.

And I'm excited to start working together

My eye sparkles and SpIns (special interests) include:

  • Writing - reports, short stories, reflections. I love writing, it has an incredibly calming effect on me. I wish to write a book one day. I love reading (and listening to audiobooks), but my favourite free time activity is to walk in nature and listen to a well-narrated audiobook. Harry Potter is my favourite book.

  • Psychology has been my absolute SpIn for the past 13 years! Particularly topics of trauma and neurodivergence.

  • Animals. I adore my cat, and wish I could adopt a puppy and get training in animal therapy.

  • Tea. My love for tea started with green tea with jasmine. More recently, I developed an interest in tea ceremonies. It can be a wonderful act of connecting with self and others, while sitting on a cushion, without the usual expectations of talking and making eye contact. Everyone is quiet and connecting through the shared experience of tea. I also do the ceremonies on my own, when I travel to nature or at home before or after a busy day.
